Oh man, the original Half Life, or now known as HL1. And the original Quake, Doom, Fallout 1 and 2, DeusEx original, UT99, StarCraft 1, Grim Fandango (my fav. adventure, a genre that is now largely forgotten), SystemShock 1 and 2, Hexen, the list goes on...

Anyways, I hope they all can still run on a 660Ti (to stay on topic).

I understand your point, and would agree, except fpr one thing.
If one argues nVidia is going on the cheap per die, then using smaller dies to accomplish the same perf is actually nVidia carving a wider profit off the backs of the consumer.
and that brings me to your point.
Someone had to go first, so it was AMD and their pricing that led the way, while nVidia followed suit.
Now, to deny their cost per die only leads to a greater profit for nVidia, which undoes your argument as to whos ripping who here.

IMO, 28nm is expensive, and if the 660ti is but a crippled GK104, the margins for nVidia will be lower, much lower than their past, and pricing will be the key as to what to expect.
We could go into how many failed GK104s are out there to be had, yields etc, but any way you look at it, it wont be cheap for nVidia, and if they take up the mantle of best bang for buck having lower margins, then kudos to them, as itll be good for consumers.
