Which cards or cards should I get for my PC I'm running games on my Dell 30" screen resolution 2560 x 1600. I want to buy the best one for the money and one that will last me for a while. I know the GTX-670 is the cheapest one, but is it the right one? Here is a short description of the cards that I'm considering. The following info. is based on one card only not a SLI combined.

GTX-670 Superclocked, will be running this card in SLI
GPU Speed 967Mhz
Pixel Pipeline 1344
Boost Clock 1046
Ram 4096
Price x 2 = $980

GTX-680 Superclocked, will be running this card in SLI
GPU Speed 1110Mhz
Pixel Pipeline 1536
Boost Clock 1176
Ram 4096
Price x 2 = $1260

GTX-690
GPU Speed 915Mhz
Pixel Pipeline 3072
Boost Clock 1019
Ram 4096
Price x 1 = $1000

Thanks for any advice!

CPU i7 920 OC to 3.8Mhz, Ram 12GB OC to 1523Mhz, GTX-285 OC, SSD Crucial 240GB

Not sure if you've already purchased your 690 or not but I will say my share anyway.

I was in the same situation as you. So I went ahead and ordered both. I had a 690 and a pair of 680s in my house. In the end I stuck with the 680s SLI. A few reasons as to why.

1. Heat. Many people think you'd get less heat with 1 card vs two. In this case you don't. The 690 gets pretty hot. As does 680 SLI. Big difference between the two? How the heat is moved. With the 690 heat will exhaust inside of your case. Your case will get very hot. Temps raised inside my case by about 10C with a 690. All because it was exhausting all that heat inside of the case. Sure, my pc could handle it. But either way it's not good for everything inside. That alone was...

Well guess what after all the advice of all the nice people. I got tired of waiting for the GTX-690 card and I went and bought the
ASUS GeForce GTX 670-DC2T-2GD5 card. I hope I made the right choice. The card is faster then a stock GTX-680 and sure is a lot cheaper. I decided on one card now and it should be able to run all the games on my Dell 30" monitor 2560 x 1600. I can always add another card down the road in SLI mode. Some times having to wait for a PC part works out in the long run!

Thanks for the good advice.

Glad you made a choice! I agree with what you've done. 670 is the best bang for buck by far. If one isn't enough. Add another! Problem solved. The less heat inside a case is a big reason as to why I wouldn't stick with a 690. I'm actually working on a video now to help people out with their choices in the futre. I have two 680s and one 690 on my table ready to be tested.

The 690 is a sexy design. But you do in fat get less performance then two 680s. Even with both stock of OC. 670s can achieve great then a 690 AND all heat exhaust outside of your case.

Not going to lie. It the 690 did not blow hot air into your case. It would be something to seriously consider despite being slightly slower. But hot air on all your components is a bit of a deal breaker to me.

Congrats on your choice and happy gaming!

You seem like someone who would be a big fan of this site:

They haven't reviewed the GTX 690 yet, but they do a good job of taking a look at the heat generated by a graphics card and the impacts it has on the rest of the system components.
Cheers!

Wow, I've never heard of that site. But it's great! Love the thermal imaging! I really wish they had the 690 in there. It would shot how crazy hot inside your case gets just from the exhaust of the GPU.
