Personally I prefer actual real world comparisons when possible, which in this case it is.

And as I revised my earlier statement to say, the 960 and 670 are almost equal, with the 670 having the slightest of edges. The 680 clearly whips the 960, they don't have similar scores at all, but it's also two generations back, so assume it will use more power and probably not be supported by directx 12, or at least not fully in any case.

My bad, I was thinking 660, even though I typed 670 and my eyes saw 670. Actually, it seems that it trades places with the 670 depending on title, however, the 960 is likely to support more current titles than the 670 going forward, plus, it also depends on whether you're talking about the 2 or 4 GB models and at what resolution. I don't think I'd be willing to pay more for a card that's two generations back though.

I've got 2 x 670s. They're fine for 1080p.

But if a 960 and a 670 cost the same, I'd jump on a 960.

Also see http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html - "I don’t recommend upgrading your graphics card unless the replacement card is at least three tiers higher. "

The 670 and 960 are in the same tier. I plan to next upgrade to 1 x 970 then later get another. I'm trying to stick with a 750W PSU.

2 x 970s then I'm into 1440p

960 is more like 680 in performance. I'd take that 960 perform between 680 and 670. Some people might concern with 960 128 bus width and much lower bandwidth but as shown by TPU test the performance difference between 960 and 680 at both 1080p and 4k is just the same. That's mean the lack of bandwidth of 960 compared to 680/670 are not much of an issue.

GPUBOSS is a joke, better look at other reviewing sites or youtube videos, honestly GPUBOSS has some awkward ratings especially when you put a nvidia gpu against an AMD gpu.

Exhibit A:
http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-285-vs-GeForce-GTX-960
That result is false, R9 285 should be in par or a point higher than 960.

And this too....how is 960 in par with a 290x what a joke

Well that seems kl with the 285 and 960. 290X vs 960 result...that is a joke. I agree anandtech might be better, they give better benchmark and walkthrough on their tests compared to gpuboss definitely

7.4 for the 960, i think that should be lower, R9 290x does better in 1080 and 1440 compared to 960, they make 290x look like a mid range card with the score being close to 960. Imagine a new PC builder who relies on GPUBOSS she/he will think the 960 is a higher end card than what it is.

PC builders don't rely on gpuboss. It provides quick, easy to see info. Its ball park, not precise. You can't be if your talking an average.

They might put more faith in reviews. But one review often isn't enough anyway. I think gpuboss is fair enough to help point OPs in the right direction. But, as I said, only if anandtech doesn't have it. And they don't have the 960 on their database yet.

Holly cow, i owned both GTX960 OC and GTX670 OC.

They are almost equal in performance. Whoever said that GTX960 is much faster is so wrong. I've tested 20 games and the difference between them was like 5 % at most. Actually GTX670 was faster, but it also was a super-clocked version. Sad i did not have GTX960 in April, most people are so mislead by it's "uber power" BS.

And about that CPUBOSS site - it's THE WORST benchmark site in the planet, i second that!!! Anandtech bench GPU is much much more accurate.
