I know VRAM has nothing to do with the performance of a game, just how much it can show or 'capture' I understand. My question is, the GTX 680 FTW Edition (4GB) is coming out by EVGA soon, (wait, is it already out!? http://eu.evga.com/articles/00669/#GTX680FTW )

And I needed to know if I am going to need 4GB if I plan on one day (late 2013 probably) having a TRi-monitor set up, and by then I will have SLI GTX 680's. So if I'm only going to have 1 3D 1080p monitor, am I fine? Thanks guys.

EDIT: Ok this is getting ridiculous and turning into a flame war. sorry but I'm ending this post later, and to let you all know, will be grabbing the 4GB edition. Hey guys, any ideas on release + price?

^ the only other evga 680 non-reference card available besides the SC is the Hydro Copper and that's $699 and that has only 2gb VRAM . So I would expect the FTW 4gb to be around the same price. So for SLI that would be $400 extra over the reference cards. That's alot. Especially the the Hydro Copper only boost to 1215mhz, and I OC one of my 680s to 1255mhz easily and very stable. So no release date on the FTW yet, I hope they are not too much.

i am not forcing anyone to buy the card of my choice.i just want to say that just like other big cards(6990),a card with 2gb VRAM will not bottleneck the performance.it's the asker's choice and decision.but if some one has any problem then show me the benchmarks with a noticeable difference and we are cool.no offence to any one.

Old thread but i found a game that breaks 2gb vram

I know 8xAA is extreme but it still makes the point that it may be necessary to have more than 2gb even with a single monitor
