I have had this Alienware x51 r2 for about 2 years. My gpu temps easily gets up to 80c when playing games i was wondering if this is ok?

I cap my temp at 80c using nvida inspector so it never goes above. I also use msi afterburner to speed up my fans depending on the temp. It idles around 30-45c. Is it because some of the games i play are un-optimized? When i play Metal Gear Solid 5 it's a lot lower 68-75c, maybe because the game is really optimized? I'm very unsure! I plan on getting a 970 will this make things worse?

Specs:
GTX 760 Ti OEM
Intel Core i7-4790 3.60GHz
16gb RAM

Solution
well then all of those cards are under 150w TDP
if you might wait, the RX 470 is a 110w card, and the RX 460 is a 75w card. all perfrom better than the GTX 760ti. they range from 100 to 200$. pretty cheap.

just check length. look for OEM makers that make smaller cards

and seriously, the 760 is a 170TDP card
1.no it will not. the temperatures are fine. GPUs are safe up to 85-90C. that is god for gaming. different games are differently GPU intensive, so the load will be different.
2. do not buy a 970 at this time of the year. you have a great CPU and you may want to consider a GTX 1070, 1080 or an RX 480.
GTX 1070 = titan X for 380 bucks
1080= best card
RX 480=GTX 970/r9390 with 8GB VRAM for 200 bucks

I would love to get one of those cards!! However, the x51 can only have 330 watts and a gpu length of 9.5 inches so i'm very limited 🙁

I do have the 330w power supply :)
