Hello. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Apologies in advance if this isn't structured right, this is my first time posting to a forum.

My name is Anthony, and I am having one hell of a time trying to figure this stuff out. So about 2 years ago I entered the PC gaming community when I bought the Lenovo Erazer X510 (http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/desktops/erazer/x-series/x510/#tab-tech_specs), now that I want to upgrade my GPU, I have to enter the world of PC hardware, and I'm already lost. The graphics card I want to buy is the EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC GAMING ACX 3.0 (http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=08G-P4-6173-KR), and after about 3 hours of research and confusion, I have just about answered all my questions, except one. What do I do about power connector pins? My current card, a GeForce GTX 760 (http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-760/specifications) takes 2 6-pins, and the 1070 takes an 8-pin. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do. Do I get an adapter that will allow me to use my already existing cable on the 1070? Or is there a different cable that will hook up to my power supply that I need to get?

I'm sure this is a dumb question, with a simple solution. I just don't know where to find it. Thank you for helping me.

Solution
This is actually a bit of tricky question. The answer is kind of. Technically speaking yes, you should be able to just plug in an adapter and it SHOULD be enough to power the card. However, the 6 Pin connection is only rated up to 75W (the card you want has a peak power draw of 150W). Often times the PSU can supply more than the 75W listed but it would be more advisable to look at investing in a new power supply.

Here is a link to the sticky on Tom's listing trusted power supplies. I would recommend something in Tier 2 or 3 for you and you won't need more than a 650W.

Here's a good example of a Tier 1 650W PSU for 90 dollars...

Thank you for the quick response! Is it that the 6-pin peaks at 75W, and that's why there is two of them? If so, what you're saying makes a lot more sense. When it comes to PSU, I know nothing. I didn't even know what a PSU was till just a few hours ago. If that EVGA SuperNOVA 650 is Tier 1, and it's what you recommend, then I'll just go ahead and get that one.

If you have anymore advice to share I'd really appreciate it. If not, thank you for answering my question. Have a good night (or day).

I think you mean that there is two 6 pins coming from your power supply? Usually they have multiple for running multiple graphics cards or other PCI cards. I don't really have anymore recommendations but that PSU should be good for you. I trust EVGA and when it comes to power supplies they are a trusted brand, the other nice thing is that it is modular (you only need to plug in power cables that you need) which should help with cable management and overall installation. Good luck and don't be afraid to ask more questions if you need help.

When I said there were two of the 6-pins, I was referring to the GTX760 having two inputs...or is it outputs? (Picture: http://legitreviews.com/images/reviews/2223/nvidia-gtx760-power.jpg).

I'm buying both right now. Marry Christmas to me haha. Thanks again.
