Hello all,
A friend of mine purchased an MSI GTX 760 card and I installed it for him. It worked great for about a year then it started getting seriously hot to the point where a pungent burning smell was present. The computer would subsequently freeze up and a reboot was required. The overheating was only an issue when playing games.
So we sent the card back to the supplier for testing, who then sent the card to MSI for further testing. After six weeks or so MSI declared there was a fault and a replacement card was sent to us.
Now, here is what we can't get our heads around...
When I place the replacement card in the machine the computer will not boot past the initial motherboard brand name - it literally stops immediately so I can't access any options. On taking the card out again the machine boots okays.
Therefore I thought I'd test it in my own computer. I currently have a 560TI in mine so I took that out and placed the GTX 760 in. It booted perfectly and works great with my games.
Upon placing my 560TI into his machine, it also boots perfectly well.
We tried uninstalling the display drivers for the card and putting the GTX 760 back in but the computer still won't boot.
I don't know where the problem lies here. The GTX 760 works in my computer but not his. And my 560ti works in both machines.
Strange?
