Hi guys, I recently downloaded Witcher 3, thinking I'd be getting over 50 fps, because my brother just got a new rig, same processor as mine, i5-4690k, but his GPU is a gtx 960, which is quite a bit weaker than my gtx 770. For some reason, when he plays Witcher 3, he gets over 50-55 fps. I decided to buy it too, and when I went to the same location where he was getting 55+ fps, I was only getting around 40-42. My GPU is stronger yet I get lower fps?? Is this because he only has his SSD plugged in? I have an SSD but I am playing off of my D; drive. I tried downloading it to my SSD, but I got the same FPS.

It's nvidia up to their greasy games again, it seems with the witcher 3 game ready drivers crippled keplers performance and just focused on maxwell, makes you wonder what will happen to maxwell when pascal is out. Don't upgrade to a 900 series card, that is what they want.

Try rolling your driver back to the gta v ready driver and see if it helps.

I just downloaded the GTA V driver, loaded up Witcher 3, still getting 40-45 fps. What's even weirder is I was in the open-world part getting 45 fps, and I'm getting 45 fps inside the little home that you go into within the first 10 minutes of the game.

Thanks a lot. Where can i get more information on when this problem is going to be fixed? :)

There is a new driver that was released sunday night I believe that fixes the issue with kepler cards.

Same exact fps, between 40-45. Gtx 960 runs 50-55, so why can't I? ,_, Just don't get it, and I don't feel like buying a new GPU.

Did the new driver specifically mention about fixing kepler performance? Some people might not want to accept it but maxwell is simply a better architecture then kepler. That's why maxwell 128 SMM are much more efficient than kepler 192 SMX. To me maxwell is almost a pure gaming chip while fermi and kepler were made to excel in compute especially double precision.

yes but it doesn't explain a gtx960 matching gtx780 performance when clearly the latter is much more powerful. even a gtx750ti is matching gtx760 performance. there is really no other game that this kind of issue occurs.

having more raw power does not simply mean better. the game itself could be favoring maxwell architecture more. in GTA V 960 can also match 780 performance using the same setting.

i've seen a lot of discussion about poor kepler performance vs maxwell in other forum as well. for those that just simply want to see it in negative light it was simply nvidia gimping kepler so people will upgrade their card to maxwell.

Try setting 'prefer maximum performance in Nvidia control panel'. I got a boost of nearly 5-6 FPS on witcher 3 (all maxed out except hairworks). Avg. FPS around 38-40.

exactly, its the game and the drivers favoring performance due to laziness or possibly intentional gimping. has nothing to do with the architecture. other sites have discovered that kepler quadro cards appears to not experience this problem.
