Hi,

so i recently upgraded my system from a GIGABYTE HD 7850 2gb to a GIGABYTE GTX 770 2gb.
The 7850 used to run BF4 on medium/low at 70-85fps, never dropping below 60, which was good because i only have a 60hz monitor.

Now, with the new GPU and on the SAME settings in BF4 i get 80-120fps but with frequent drops down to 40. GPU usage is at around 60% and Power Consumption at 50% with those settings.

Here is the problem: When i set BF4 to ultra, i get 55-100fps, but still it drops below 40 frequently. With these settings GPU usage is above 80% for most of the time, but Power Consumption still at around 65%.

Old AMD drivers have been uninstalled completely and registry leftovers were deletet.

Any guesses whats wrong?
Oh and i don't care about the looks of the game that much. I'd rather lower the graphic setting to get 60fps min AT ALL TIMES than having a slightly better looking game.
So basically i want the fps to be above 60 so i can lock it on 60 via the game cfg. GPU usage should be pretty high since i dont want to "waste" any performance.

Hope someone could help me. If you need more detailed information about my system or anything else, let me know.

cheers

System specs are:

CPU: Intel i5 4670k @ 3.4Ghz
Board: MSI Z87-G43
Ram: Corsair DIMM 8 GB DDR3-1333
GPU: GIGABYTE GTX 770 2gb
PSU: Strike-X 600W
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64bit

edit: The GPU-temp on the first metioned settings is around 60°C. On Ultra its never above 75°C

Game*, the only one is Battlefield 4 and it runs like crap for I'd say about 50% of its user base, and yes you're correct, 2GB cards are still a great option. There is no true "future proofing" in electronics, think about it, even the $1,000 GTX Titan is already being beat by the 780 Ti, which is better in every single way except the amount of video memory. The longest you will ever get out of any single component is maybe if you're lucky 4 years, and that's only if you buy the bleeding edge of tech and are fine running on low settings 4 years later. OP stated they have a 60 Hz 1080p monitor, and 1440 and 1600p aren't affordable right now , that's the point. Besides, I saw a benchmark where at 2.5K (2560x1440) the GTX 770 2GB model ran Metro: Last Light on high settings + very high tessellation in the most intense settings at only around 8-15 FPS lower than the 780 and Titan, usually at a playable 40-55 FPS. That's 2.5K, Metro Last Light at it's most intense, even better than high settings. Link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McMuS67wNwk . Sorry bud, your argument is invalid.

You dont have to convince me man i didnt buy one.

http://www.bf4blog.com/battlefield-4-retail-gpu-cpu-benchmarks/ this benchmark uses almost 3gb vram.

Those are just a few from a quick google search. If you want to max out bf4 you need more than 2gb vram. Yea its just bf4 now but do you honestly think the next series of games arent gonna be the same? As games progress and graphics get better they will require more vram. And the titan was never really meant to be a gaming card it was more of a rendering card so its not really super surprising that its getting beat by cards that were released AFTER it. Bottom line the 770 is a good card none the less but 2gb is scrapping the bottom of the barrel in terms of maxing out games. 2gb will be phased out in a year tops running at ultra settings. This is just the nature of the beast when pc gaming, everything gets phased out just depends on how fast.

So i am looking forward to changing the 2gb version to a 4gb version.
Could take a while though, but i will certainly report back and let you know if it was worth it.

Right now i am running my old HD 7850 again. Without any problems on low/medium settings...

OP let us know your results if you do infact grab the 4gb model of the 770. I was playing around with my 560ti classy in bf4 just a little bit ago and while monitoring my vram usage of 1280mb i notice when the ram hit around 1180mb usage thats when i started stuttering really bad and started having issues. This was at all high settings and x2 AA. When i turned down lighting medium or low the vram usage went down to below 1000mb for me and the stuttering cleared up. Meaning although i never hit the max 1280mb my card has on it 1180'ish was the cards max area. So seeing 1900mb+ for the 770 2gb very well could be its maxing point. I dont know for sure but thats my guess.

Thanks!

So the GIGABYTE 770 GTX 4gb will arrive on wednesday or thursday this week.
I will post the results regarding BF4 as soon as possible, stay in touch.

Soooooo,
the GTX 770 4gb is set up and running. Did a windows-re-install, put all new drivers etc.
Card is working fine and BF4 is running very smooth - on all ULTRA settings with max AA. Looks like the 4gb vram did the trick.
FPS about 75-100 mostly, sometimes down to 50, but this occures very rarely now. Gpu usage is above 90% most of the time, sometimes lower, like 60-70%. Temp. at around 65°C. The vram used is at about 1800mb, but on some map - the same maps i got low fps before - it is at 2100mb-2300mb!!!
Cpu usage same as before, 80-99% temp. @ 55°C-65°C.

Turns out that you actually need more than 2gb vram, at least on my setup.
Hope this helps, cheers.

edit:
When i limit the FPS via the BF4 config to 60, gpu usage will become much lower, vram stays the same. FPS is like the same, except it wont go above 60.

Most likely the settings were never high enough to use all 2gb yeah.

@azzazel: The battlefield is big, who knows whats going to happen. 😀

Once you crank settings to ultra the usage really goes up. The cards drawing stuff and rendering things it normally would not on high or medium. Not to mention the newer architecture is doing things the older was not. Like comparing apples to oranges, both are fruit but both are completely different.
