i have a msi gtx 770 lightning offered about the same price as the gigabyte gtx 960 in my country
i know the 770 is better in performance but talking about future proofing.
will the 770 fully support dx12 or just software support

Solution

Yes when it comes to performance the GTX 770 is better than GTX 960.

- Having said that the GTX 960 is an extremely power efficient Maxwell GPU that only require a quality 400W PSU that can deliver 20Amps or more its +12V rail.
- It has DirectX 12 support, which would greatly improve the peformance of low and mid range card @1080p like this one.
- Also in the following video you would see the GTX 960 only falling behind slightly and in some games performing on par with GTX 770 if not better.

Well, the Maxwell cards will probably have better support for DX12 than Kepler cards, but how exactly remains to be seen. Maxwell cards also seem to profit a bit more than Kepler cards from Nvidia driver updates, so that's why normally I always recommend getting a 900 series card over a 700 series. The 770 Lightning however, really is a beast of a card, so that one might actually be an exception. Only thing to know is that it will use a LOT more power than a 960 for sure.

- The GTX 960 also manages to outclass the AMD budget heavy weight R9 280. Check the following benchmark videos:

you're right! the performance difference is only visible in games 2 or more years old but in new games i'ts equal
so i'll go for the 960 for the future

I would suggest you to get a GTX 960 and wait for dx12 to release. GTX 960 is just enough for current gaming on very high to ultra settings. In future when you will add another graphics card, that graphics card + GTX 960 will give you much better performance than selling GTX 770 and getting another GPU.
