I have recently gotten very involved with video editing. The programs I use include After Effects and Maya Student edition. My current computer is less than desirable for the large rendering and 3D tasks I have been doing.

I am wondering, would my current mobo (Gigabyte P67 UD4- B3) be compatible with a GTX 780?
I want to take out my Hawk Radeon 5770 and replace it with the GTX 780.

Also, I currently am using 16 GB of 1600 Mhz Ram. I am debating upgrading this to 64 GB of ram. Should i continue to use 1600 Mhz, or should I go higher?

Lastly, I have been using a non overclocked i7 2600k. This seems to be doing well. Would this be compatible with the adjustments and upgrades I would like to make?

Thank you

Solution
yes your mobo is compatible with gtx 780 but if you are using mental ray its only render on cpu so upgrading your gpu wont reduce the rendering time but a stronger gfx card will be much better in viewport

for rams 1600 mhz will be good but your mobo support only 32gb of memory

and if you wont a new gfx card (for viewport) get nvidia quadro it will be well optimized for 3d apps a gtx 780 is gaming card
Increasing your RAM is down to your OS as well as the maximum your mobo supports, and your mobo only supports 32gb, dual channel, 2 slots per channel, 8gb per slot I wouldnt worry about high speed ram. Extra ram will help, and the gtx 780 is compatible with all your other parts, in fact you could run two if you wanted to although I wouldn't recommend it.

Yea, your rig seems pretty good and a 780 would fit nicely. You are using a k series processor so I recommend you get your money's worth and OC it, otherwise why did you buy it? Grab an aftermarket cooler, such as a coolermaster hyper212, and OC it. Good thing about if you get an after market cooler is that it pulls air right across your RAM so you can OC then safely. Your RAM should be fine for now depending on how large the images you're rendering. An OC might help. When you do decide to upgrade go wth 1833mHz minimum as you have a high performance set up and need to match your RAM appropriately.

Fantastic. Thank you all for the answers!

So the next question. Would it pay to upgrade my Mobo to something that would hold 64 GB Ram and more than 1600 Mhz?

I know with technology very few computers can withstand time, but I would like these upgrades to last me as long as possible.

Budget is not a major issue, as long as the Cost/Benefit analysis makes sense.
