Hey guys,

I'm in a situation where I can essentially swap out a 780 TI 3GB to a 1060 3GB at no cost if I sell the 780 TI. I know the 1060 is a gimped version of the 6GB card, but when comparing to a 780 TI 3GB would this be a good upgrade?

I remember reading somewhere that a GTX 1060 should be equal to a GTX 980. The 780 TI being lower than a GTX 980 probably means it's a good upgrade especially when considering the lower power requirements.

The only thing is, benchmarks and performance for the GTX 1060 3GB mini versions are very hard to find. Especially those comparing it to a 780 TI in real world frame rates.

Does anyone have these cards and put them through their benchmarks? Or know of some articles showing which is better?

Thanks.

780 ti offers ~ 85% of the performance of a 1060 6GB. Given the reduced performance of the 3GB version, it probably won't give more than a 10% performance boost. Not worth it in my opinion, unless you're getting the 1060 for a really good deal or a trade for your 780 ti.

Edit: oops, didn't read the OP well enough. If you can exchange your 780 Ti for a 1060 at no cost, that's a good deal.

basically

780 ti is a bit weaker than a gtx 970

1060 = gtx 980

if its for free sure, otherwise more of a side grade

a gtx 1070 would be an upgrade

The 1060 3 GB is not a full 1060. It's slower than the 970 by a bit and only has 3 GB of RAM. Going from a 780 Ti to a 1060 is more of a side-grade really. If the 1060 you are talking about is one of those mini-ITX cards definitely don't bother. Those cards are usually downclocked and the cooler is always bad simply because of the tiny size.

I remember from seeing benches that the GTX 970 and 780 Ti traded blows. With the 780 TI coming slightly ahead in some games, and vice versa. So I always thought 780 TI = GTX 970. Are you guys sure?

And I've never seen anything about a GTX 1060 being slower than a GTX 970. Do you guys know where you saw these benches?
