GTX 780 vs GTX 780Ti? Is it worth it?

Solution

The GTX 780 Ti is faster than both the R9 290 and 290X

Mantle isn't drawing much support from developers. Maybe a handful of titles will gain a benefit from it, but only where they are specifically taking advantage of Mantle to perform a function more efficiently than DirectX allows.
No. What, it's about a 7-18% better (depending on the benchmark) for 40% more cost? Financially it doesn't make much sense, but then again if I had $200 to burn I'd get the 780ti 😛

The performance gain you will get from the GTX 780 Ti is about 20%.
At 1920x1080 resolution, the GTX 780 is more than fast enough and the extra cost is not worth it.
At 2560x1440 resolution, you will get some benefit from the GTX 780 Ti card.
Two GTX 770 cards in SLI is considerably faster than the GTX 780 Ti if you are running 2560x1440 or higher. I would recommend the 4 GB models for SLI.

Not "considerably faster" but faster nonetheless. Two 770's might be better option. but to save on money and avoid sli issuses. I'd go with the 780Ti for 2560x1440.

the gk110 is highly modifiable and is the best overclocking gpu ever made. you can get close to sli 770s with some tried and true modding and can easily hit 1.4ghz and those certain cards like the classy, lightning, hof, kingpin, and lucky lottery cards will go above 1.5ghz on air.

Mantle doesnt have alot of developers supportin it??? EA is the biggest gaming enterprise in the world. Ya they fuck up here n there....but bcuz theyre goin mantle, soon everyone else will. Amd is goin to take over the gpu market and intel is still the cpu kings. Times are changing. Mark my words.

The difference would depend on the title.
Look at the Crysis 3 2560x1440 High auality + FXAA results on this review:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7492/the-geforce-gtx-780-ti-review/8

GTX 770 SLI - 84.2 FPS
GTX 780 Ti - 62.4 FPS

At 3840x2160 the GTX 770s are slower, but this is probably because of a lack of video RAM (2GB models used for review).
By using the 4GB models, you can expect a good performance improvement over the GTX 780 Ti.
Nvidia also does a good job of frame pacing, so SLI is pretty consistent.
I wouldn't say the same for AMD Crossfire solutions.

And FUCK BENCHMARKS!! Im sick of people always looking at benchmarks. For example the benchmark you posted says the r9 290 get avg 64 fps in ultra mode at 1920x1080????? BULLSHIT. i have a r9 290 dude, im gettig MIN 70 fps. So fuck benchmarks by other people. Ive done tests so you can show me googled shit all day, wont change nothing. AMD ALL DAY BABY!

The review is on reference cards and drivers that were available at the time.
With a good cooler, factory over clocked card and the latest drivers you expect to get better results for all of these cards.
Benchmarks from a professional hardware reviewer are a good way of comparing hardware when you can't have all this hardware to test for yourself.
Your actual results will also depend on CPU, case cooling, room temperature and chosen game settings.

Synthetic benchmarks are not necessarily applicable to real world usage.
The best indication you will get of expected performance is a benchmark in the specific application or game you want to run.

The R9 290 faster than the GTX 780 Ti? I don't think so. Not even close. The 290 should be compared on the level of the 780 or maybe even a 4 GB 770. It shouldn't even be considered when thinking about cards that match the 780 Ti.
