Question GTX 780Ti crashing when installing drivers

I brought a 2nd hand GTX 780Ti and I've tried to install the GPU but every time I try to install, the screen will go just go black and then I have to hard restart the PC. I am installing the latest drivers (442.19). I have tried older driver versions as well. I have checked that the card is seated correctly in my PC and that the power cables are plugged incorrectly. I contacted the previous user and said that the GPU ran fine on the latest drivers. I used DDU before trying to install the drivers. I reinstalled my GTX 660 to see if the issue persisted so I used DDU and then installed the 660 which was able to install the drivers without any crashes.

Any help would be appreciated

Ryzen 5 2600
GTX 780ti
Windows 10 64 bit
Corsair HX 750 PSU

As soon as you install Drivers on a card with bad cooling the card chokes.

At least try non violent route first than take a chance bricking his GTX 780ti from the get go flashing BIOS.

The seller got back to me and said that there was no previous bios changes and that he was running windows 10 aswell

If the card is showing red dots that is clearly a damaged card probably due to cryptocurrency mining.
A bios flash won't help in this case.
I would return that card and not bother with it.

The GPU was packaged in bubblewrap and in a cardboard box. I brought the PSU in December last year

Considering this and the red dots, the plastic bubble wrap may have zapped the card with ESD. Was the bag a dark purple or pink colour or just regular transparent? You should never keep a graphics card in regular plastic as it builds static charge very quickly.

I checked and its a real 780ti. i cleaned the card but didn't make a difference

You should try getting a refund and send it back if you can. It was likely falsely advertised as working and I bet the seller will try to refuse a return.

That's why I always pay with paypal for used items, you can open a dispute for up to 6 months.

Yh the seller offered a full refund , i wanted to know if theres any way to fix a gpu as a result of ESD if possible?

No you can't fix it but it doesn't happen often.
