I want to know if the gtx 960 is good for 1080p gaming and will it be able to support games going to be released for 3 more years and also which is the best gtx 960 to buy

Solution

Please calm down turkey3, you must understand that these two cards are still great cards and will be used for years to come. Sure you can save up for a 1070 or 1080 if you can afford that at all or if you want to wait a while to save for those cards. Just because you have money doesn't mean that everyone on these forums can afford higher end/the newest cards.

Also sizzling is correct these cards are not obsolete. The definition:

Adjective - obsolete
1.
no longer in general use; fallen into disuse:
an obsolete expression.
2.
of a discarded or outmoded type; out of date:
an obsolete battleship.
3.
(of a linguistic form) no longer in use, especially, out of use for at least the past century.

These are not...
ajay the 960 is a dead gpu now that pascal cards are dropping and soon the newer amd cards will be out. hold onto your funds then look at the new 1060ti and amd whe nthey drop latter on this year. the new 1070 at 400.00 is a fast as the old tiatntx gpu and the new 1080 is faster.

The GTX 960 isn't a dead card, it is a good budget card for 1080p. I have the Asus GTX 960 Strix 2GB and it's a great GPU for the money. However, if you want to max games out for the next 3 years I would recommend saving for a GTX 970 or 980 because these GPUs will last for a long time and manage to get amazing frame rates on newer games still.

Personally I can almost max out most games I play at 1080p on my card, I play games like: Rocket League, Black Ops 3, Far Cry 3/4, Battlefield 3/4, etc no problems on very high/ ultra settings.

The GTX 970 and 980 are obsolete cards.

But they still perform as well as they did last week when they ruled

But still extremely popular and well used in the gaming community. Also their performance is still great in modern games especially 1080p.

These are not the newest cards of all time, but many people will still use them for years to come. Please can you just calm down and get over the fact that they are popular cards.

As long as the games are made primarily for today's gen of consoles, the GTX960 are in good shape. They can play very well all the games at 1920x1080 resolution on high settings.
The fact that there are newer and faster GPU's out doesn't magically change that FACT. There is no sudden need for more GPU power, not until a new generation of consoles will be out. And even then it will take at least one year for new, native to that generation of consoles, titles to be out.

Running to buy the new "toy" out there, just to have bragging rights, is a sign of immaturity.

I never said they weren't bad cards, but they are really bad purchases right now. It's easy for you guys to get all defensive since you own the cards yourselves and therefore have a bias; people have a sort of attachment to things they own, so you don't want to face the reality that they're getting phased out very soon.

Cherrypicking the obsolete definition doesn't work, and arguing over definitions doesn't get anywhere since definitions are different everywhere, and words are only defined by words and so on (one of my favorite paradoxes).

Tell me, do you think a GTX 970 is a wise purchase right now?

This thread title is about GTX960, you are the one cherry picking when talking about 970.
And as long as the card you are "pushing" for will be 2x the price of a GTX960 and is not even on sale now... you might need to reconsider.

If you want a good priced card that can play games on high/ultra settings with over 60 fps at 1080p then the GTX 960/970/980 are all good cards. Also I don't own a GTX 970 or 980 currently, I own a GTX 960 and won't upgrade until I need to.

Yes you could save up for a newer card and the new 1070 and 1080 seem to be at good prices, at the end of the day it depends on what you want to buy and what you want to do with the card.

wait...

that's like buying a hotdog now, instead of waiting a bit to buy a steak dinner for the same price

Yeah I know the new cards are really really good bang for the buck and to be honest once they are fully released then yes you might as well save up for one of those. The 970/960 are still cheaper than the 1070 though, but yeah for the performance you should really just save up.
