My ASUS GTX 960 suddenly started heating from 33C to 55C within a few minutes. This is really unusual as it usually constants around 35-37C idle. The card is in fine condition as I service it regularly. Apart from my GPU, everything else is running fine as before. What should I do?

Glad you have managed to resolve this issue mate. CCleaner is a great tool for removing unwanted cashes and non used files that are being stored when not needed. If you have done a full scan and restarted your computer you may find it boots a little quicker now and also runs smother and quicker when opening programs too!
Are these temps increasing while idle from 33c - 55c ? What temps do you get while you are gaming ? if it increases more then you could either having a seating issue with your GPU on your motherboard or it could be loose power cables, it's always best to check. If not then your thermal paste on you GPU may be getting dry resulting in increase temps due to non efficient thermal transfer.

Yes 33 to 55c while idle. While gaming though, not much of a difference, max 60c with fan speed 45%. Just check the cables and seating, all seems fine to me. Should I check the paste?

Those temps aren't bad when under load so i wouldn't be to worried

You could check the paste but it depends if you are still under warranty, if you are they i would contact your manufacture about a possible replacement if it bothers you a lot. If it isn't under warranty then sure you can check the paste but you will need to clean and apply new paste to replace the old , regardless if its dry or not. if you don't clean the paste off if its dry or not and you reset the cooler on the card then it could cause air bubbles resulting on higher temps.

If you check you will need to apply new Thermal Paste.

Hope this helps

Still under warranty, I can live with the gaming temperature but idle bothers me abit.
@bishopi5 and extreametech, mine before today used to idle around 38..speaking of today, it did rain a lot last couple of days, could this be a factor for high idle temp? I just hope this has nothing to do with power supply

25C? that is awesome, surely one of the cooler cards on market!

Found the Solution - I cleaned my computer using CCleaner, some 880mb removed and magically the temperature drops down to 37C haha not sure what happenned but glad it did. Would love an explanation though. Thanks to all who helped!
