I just got a GTX 960 and it said it comes with a free copy of Witcher 3. Anyone know if a 960 can play witcher 3 maxed out at 1080 with MSAA and enhanced MFAA on top?

So far the 960 has been able to play everything i have thrown at it on high, or maxed out. For Titanfall, i did have to set the texture from ultra to high, but was able to use 4xTXAA plus MFAA

Hi,

I strongly suggest learning how to properly TWEAK the quality settings with your frame rate as the goal and not just try to "max out" the settings if that's your current approach.

SMOOTH GAMEPLAY is far more important IMO than slightly better graphics.

Since I don't have the game yet i can't give exact recommendations but it usually goes something like THIS if you want the best experience:

1) Run game with VSYNC OFF and VSYNC ON to determine if screen tearing is an issue.

2) If NO, then aim for at least 40FPS average while tweaking AA, Shadows etc for the best combination
(sometimes features like Ambient Occlusion or "Ultra" shadows are expensive for minimal visual benefit)

3) If YES, screen tearing is annoying then I suggest...

3) If YES, screen tearing is annoying then I suggest using "Adaptive VSYNC" (for some with weaker cards use "Half Adaptive VSYNC" which would drop to 30FPS for 60Hz monitors which is not desirable for most but can be optimal for weaker GPU's).

a) Turn VSYNC OFF, and for 60Hz monitors adjust the graphics settings to optimize so you get 60FPS or higher at least 90% of the time, then
b) Force on Adaptive VSYNC
c) Play game and if screen tearing gets too frequent, then drop a few settings to raise the average frame rate slightly to minimize this further.

(In the future for your next monitor I suggest investigating G-Sync monitors).

Summary:
The optimal gaming experience starts with understanding your VSYNC ON/OFF needs and tweaking according. Cheers!

So Witcher 3 is definitely going to cripple a GTX960 if you try to simply put everything to max, however you will have a truly AWESOME EXPERIENCE if you know how to tweak. In fact, I have a GTX680 which is similar to a GTX960; when I got Crysis 3 it destroyed my card on max settings but I still tweaked to maintain 60FPS on Adaptive VSYNC and it looked awesome.

It can't run it maxed out but it can handle the witcher 3 at high or definitely medium with no problem. They wouldn't bundle it with a free game if you can't play it.
