GTX 970 crashing games to a solid colored screen?

Hello,

I have a GTX 970 with a 900 watt corsair psu. I have it overclocked to 1492 on the core with a +10 voltage on afterburner.

PROBLEM: Overclock is stable on Heaven and 3DMark, but after a short while playing on games (Borderlands The Pre-Sequel, Call of Duty Black Ops II) it crashes the game (not the computer) to the desktop.

I've determined the temperature is not an issue (60 degrees is fine)
I've determined the games is not an issue because I have re downloaded them
I've determined that its not the drivers because I've uninstalled and re installed them.

My hint is that this issue has something to do with the amount of power I am giving to the card, either too much or too little. I have experimented with putting +12 and the result is still the same.

Any suggestions?

i had similar issues with my GTX 980's though i was trying to stay on stock voltages as my temps on my second card which is half covered by a GTX 650Ti for physx rise to just shy of 80C when clocked at 1325mhz core 7200mhz ram under full load...it would be solid in every benchmark/burn in software i had but in borderlands and far cry 4 after hours (2-4) it would crash. sadly i just had to ease back on my clocks to 1300mhz core 7112mhz ram to stop said crashes from happening to desktop like you. So my guess is you need to ease up on your clocks a bit or increase your voltage some more until it is stable in games (assuming temps <80c).
