Probably it could manage, but I would get a R9 390 if you are buying a new GPU. The 390 will pull ahead at higher resolutions though I suspect their 1440p performance is similar.
That would depend on the game being played. For the more demanding games no. You need to forget about Ultra the difference in that and high settings is very little.
I would recommend nothing less than a GTX 980 for 1440p if you must crank up the games as high as you can then nothing less than a GTX 980ti.

True i mean high settings could do it i seen gta 5 played at high settgs at 4k witht the 970. Im debating between the r9 390 and the 970 but i hear bad thngs about amd cards.
In the end it depends on what kind of games we're talking about. The GTX 970 is a good card for a decent price, but if you truly want to secure yourself for the future and be able to run ultra settings then I'd consider the GTX 980 Ti. Don't go for the 980 as the 980 Ti has a much better price/performance as I understand it.
True, i play gta 5 alot and my budget is between$300-$400 so i may go with the 970 and overclock it to get 980 performance, but im not sure what to do :/
