I want to know what would work with a gtx 970 gpu... Do i need anything special to run this gpu besides the wattage i need

Ideally, you would want a good quality PSU that beyond the minimal specifications for that card. That also has the required connections to power the card.

You would need to ensure that your motherboard has the PCIe connection for the card to fit into.

You would want to ensure the card will fit length wise into the pc case you own, without comming into contact with any other components (motherboard heatsinks, RAM, etc..). I would make sure you have a good air flow in the case as well, to provide the gtx 970 with the cool air it needs to stay as cool as possible.

You would want to make sure your CPU is capable of pushing the card to its potential, or you are just wasting money and would be better suited at a lower performance card that better suits your CPU's capability.

i have a intel Intel Core i5-4440 and it is liquid cooled, A Gigabyte Ga-b85-hd3 motherboard and 8 gbs of ram. im not sure if this is good enough to run a Gigabyte gtx 970 g1 gaming series

Your i5-4440 should be quite capable of providing the gtx 970 with all the information it needs to run quite fast! I wouldn't recommend a slower card because of your CPU.

If its in the budget, get the gtx 970!
This is assuming your PSU can handle it, and your case can fit it.

yeah it is in my budget i have a mid tower i'm pretty sure and i plan on getting a 550 watt or a 750 watt power supply' i think i might go with the 750 watt corsair gold power supply. or if you have any suggestions on a power supply that can handle the gtx 970, and thanks for your help!
