GTX 970 Installation help?

I bought a GTX 970 EVGA but trying to install it something is going wrong. The card needs a minimum power supply of 400 watts or 500 watts mine is 600watts, a PCI 3 or 2 I have a 2 and I also have the sufficient space for it. I put the graphics card in the slot screw it in nice and firm fit just fine I then recase my pc and plug my cable into my on board graphics power on my pc and get no signal. Yet when I remove the graphics card and try booting with on board graphics it boots just fine. I don't know what's going wrong if you need anymore info please ask also I am not computer savvy so please talk as such thank you.

You need to plug power connectors into your GTX 970 (probably a 6 pin and 8 pin). Plug your display cable into the GPU.

I sort of agree, but when I first did not plug in the PCI-E connectors, it displayed on screen that they needed to be plugged in.

Did you go into BIOS and change primary graphics to PEG/PCI-E, the BIOS is prob set to the internal graphics
