Hello.

I assembled new PC wit asus Maximus VII hero and gtx 970 and after Random restarts while installing drivers I found out that PC shut down when I try to install nvidia drivers
In control panel under device manager there is no video card shown. So I suspect the motherboard don't recognize the graphic card
It shuts down every time I try to install the driver.

Anyone can help?

Maybe the 1st pcie slot has problem.
1) Update the BIOS from asus. http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VII_HERO/HelpDesk_Download/
2) update the chipset driver from intel https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=20775
3) Try GPU in other pcie slot.
4) Using the Guru3D - Driver Sweeper to clean the GPU driver before you try to reinstall the driver. http://www.guru3d.com/content_page/guru3d_driver_sweeper.html
5) If you can install the GPU driver, move the GPU back to the 1st, if the gtx970 works only in the 2nd pcie slot, you know wat to do.

Hi there,

I have the same exact problem, seems to be a recurrent situation for this kind of configuration.

I have an Asus Maximus VII hero and a Nvidia Gtx 970 Gaming edition.
When the card is enabled, even without drivers and with a clean installation, the PC shuts down right after the login, like 20 seconds max.
I must add that I got pretty often the "0E" error on the main board debug display when the PC is shutting down, which matches the "Microcode not found" in the Asus MB manual.
After doing a quick research, it appears to be an error related to the CPU, but I think it's just the videocard messing up with the system.

Removing the card or disabling it via device manager solves the problem... even I would prefer to use my expensive, brand new video card.

Here's my config:

Intel Core i7-4790K, 4x 4.00GHz
Asuss Maximus VII hero
Nvidia GTX 970 Gaming edition
Corsair Vengeance + Corsair Vengeance LP - 8x4, 32 Gb total (1.50 V, 1600 MHz)
SSD Samsung drive
WD HDD
Windows 8.1 updated

The video is a Samsung TV 37 inches.

Please consider that all the PC pieces are brand new.

I'll try the solutions answered here, but I have the suspect it won't work...
