gtx 970 or gtx 980 with triple 24" gsync 1080p monitor

I'm planning on get a one gtx 970 or one gtx 980 for three gsync 1080p monitors for NVIDIA Surround Would the 970 or the 980 scale with DSR enabled to be three 4k monitor are would it be a waist of money for three gsync monitors?

I'm asking myself the same question as I am pondering my upgrade from a gtx 680. I think sli 970s might be the way to go if you have a rig that can support it.
