So on my GTX 970 I have upped the core my 120 MHZ observing a boost clock of 1479mhz. MY fans are around 50 percent at 100 percent usage and the temps are 52 degrees! I have only upped the voltage by 15 MV and the power limit to 105%. I love this card, give me your results below!

I can go higher on my memory up to 8000, in benchmarks even higher but i feel 400+ in MSI Afterburner is good enough.
i got 35+ more volts cause in some games it is stable but in witcher 3 some artefacts are starting to pop up and it is caused by to high core cloack. So i aded that 35 more volts and it seems to be fine. in benchmarks nothing happens but when i cloac core above 185 it is not stable anymore.

and after OC MSI shows 1522 on core (+180), 4001 memory after adding +500 and 1242V

Yup, those are decent clocks.

Yup, those are decent clocks.

Is it possible to OC the memory up to 8400? My msi 970 is running very well with that cloack speed, games, benchmark i dont see any artifacts or drivers crashing. I dont want to go higher cause people are getting like 8000mhz and cant go higher, anyway i dont see big difrence in OC memory mayby faster loading etc but not much in fps maybe 2-3.

for benchmarks all these high memory overclocks can net you some decent score boosts. otherwise if your gaming on a single 1440p or below monitor you are not going to get any more than 1-3 fps. i would skip the memory overclock and save the extra heat created for the core frequency since that is what will get you more fps in real life.

I would like to but the problem is i cant go higher than the 180+ on core in games, no matter if i overclock memory or not. So i will stay at 500+ memory and 170, 175+ on core. Oh and i only playing at 1080p

It depends on the memory type. The Elpida and Hynix memory aren't overclocking much past 8000 effective. The Samsung memory is able to get much higher clocks.

gpu and cpu oc... its about as high as i wanna push it. all done on stock volts

not bad for an aging core system with a new gpu.

Unigine benchmarks just love high memory clock. The closer you can get it to 2100 without hitting the power limit, the better you'll score. Depending on which EVGA model you have, you'll hit the PWR perf cap reason at different times.

There isn't a 970 made that shouldn't be able to run the memory at 2000. = ) The MSI cards are built well.

I was having a bit of fun yesterday. lulz

I have a custom bios. In the stock bios 170 watts is 100%, and 187 watts is 110%. I raised the limits to: 270 watts is 100% and 310 watts is 114%. I also raised the base clock from 1367 to 1531, the memory from 3505 (1752.5 base) to 3800 (1900 base) and the voltage max from 1.256v to 1.275v.

Ok, I'm new to overclocking, so I don't know if these are legit or not...

I followed a guide and it told me to look for artifacts etc. while slowing upping the mhz on the various stuff. Well, I eventually got to the max on everything (Using GPU Tweak).

My card is running at "Graphics: 1602Mhz and Memory: 4005Mhz" according to Unigine Heaven. I will attach an image of my GPU Tweak window (But everything is maxed out).

Is this safe? I am monitoring the temperature and it seems to be completely steady at 60-70c and drops back to 35-40c after Unigine.

Unigine Heaven rarely reads the clocks correctly...unless you're running a custom bios. Then, for some reason, they will read right. Use GPUz sensors tab to see what your GPU is really running at. The clocks it's showing you are really good though, if it's truly what you're running.

In the second picture you linked, it's showing that your GPU is running at 1501....that's more likely, given that you're running a STRIX. They're voltage locked to 1.212v.....adding more via the slider doesn't actually do anything.

Thanks for the help, is there any way to override this maximum? I would really like to try and overclock it more. Should I use a different program?

*edit* I used GPUz, my readings are as follows:
gpu clock: 1261mhz, boost: 1400mhz
memory: 2003Mhz

Also it seems like it is maxing out at 1501Mhz and ram maxes at 2000.7Mhz, why then does the Asus control panel say my memory is clocked at 8010Mhz and gpu at 1400? This is confusing for a newbie.

At 1501 you're hitting the power limit and the card is throttling, so clocking it to 1501 is effectively useless. You need to find a clock that it'll run without hitting the power limit perf cap. Your options there would be to either lower the clock until you're no longer seeing green show up in the perf cap reason line, OR, run a modded bios.

As for the restrictions on the voltage. On the STRIX 970, no....you're stuck at 1.212v. Even with a modded bios, it's locked at the VRM, and there is no way to change it.

As for the memory, the 8000 it's showing you is the "effective clock". It's no different than looking at speccy and seeing your 1600 system ram reading 800. DDR...double data rate. SOme programs will show you 4000, that's the double data rate, some will show you 8000, the effective clock rate, and yet others will show you the base....2000.

I have the Msi 4GD5T OC model, I have it +200 on the core and +425 on the memory. Max boost is 1530 and 4000. I will be adding a second one of these cards this week. It performs great! Max gpu temps on valley benchmark is 75. is this on par with the other 970s from evga, asus etc?

Yeah, that's sounds about right for temps with stock cooling. It's a little higher than I'd be comfortable with, but, they're not bad, either.

I wonder if mounting an additional fan on the side of my nzxt phantom 530 case would help. I may try that. When I get my second card do i need to overclock them? I will be running a 27" 1440p monitor. the reason I ask is because I only have a 650 watt psu that I plan on upgrading in the future but at the moment I'm hoping it will suffice for a while. Thanks

Your results seem solid. If you add more voltage it would stabilise your overclock and if you want you could possibly push your card even a bit more just watch temps to make sure you not throtling gpu.
Best find your card higher stable overclock, do all your testing for stability and once you've done drop clocks a bit for everyday gaming.
Your Firestrike score seems about right depending on what is the rest of your system.
You right about graphics ram.
You good with your power supply.
