This is my first build, and I want to have all the parts by the end of June. My budget is $1400.
I originally wanted the GTX 970 and an AMD FX 8350, but my friend recently told me that I might have some problems with that setup. He said that both would run fine, but some features wouldn't work. Is this true? and if it is, what CPU should I get? Even if it isn't true, is there a better CPU I should use? He said I could either get a different CPU or an equivalent GPU by AMD.
My friend has built multiple PCs so I'm assuming he knows a bit about computers.

Thanks!

Here's a link to my parts list, the CPU, GPU, and motherboard should be the only things that change

The CPU and GPU will work fine together assuming you have a motherboard with the correct socket for the CPU. The 8350 may bottleneck the GTX 970 in more CPU intensive games but apart from that, they will work fine together.
You should consider an i5 4690k or i7 4790k and a Gigabyte Z97X-SLI motherboard.
$1400, you want to go with Intel. AMD is for budget builds.
