The GTX 970 just launched in India at 28000INR (~460$). Can I expect the price to come down to 20-22k INR within a year if AMD launches competitively priced cards?

Solution
Can't give you conclusive answer unless they're atleast announced. What I speculate however is, that, 1k series should be launched with x60 as this one skipped it, or atlest 960 should be launched by then, won't be as good as 970 surely.

I saw some GTX 970s for 31,999 INR(516$),Which is just 20k(330$) in USA:ouch:. In India the GTX 980 is 55k(888$),Which is just 31k(500$) in USA:ouch:. GTX 980 in USA = GTX 970+16$ in India:kaola:. What the :fou::fou::fou:!!!
But Why:ange: It's not Good:no:,It's unfair:pfff:.

Perfect explanation so far. To add to it - the reason GTX 970's are so pricey is simply because, the so called Indian Retailers (And mostly online) which are not retailers, but they list products for other retailers; are all selling the cards at the US retail price + import duty, and they do not pay any other TAX except import. While selling to us in shops, they will add, ST+VAT+Edu cess. Then if you bargain, one or more tax components will disappear. So you have to pay the 'US retail price' and also you have to pay for the 'TAX amount' that the seller is going to pay to the govt, and on top of that the retailers think about 'profit'. (I still have no clue how much profit they are actually making... :??:). Coming back to the point, the actual manufacturer cannot do anything about it, since they do not regulate price in India. In India price is regulated by demand. (Like the YUREKA phones were sold on amazon.in for 12,599, while the actual price was 8999. And later amazon, didn't process any refund, just apologized saying it was a technical error. But the ground reality is the actual importer (and in places like Delhi they also pose as the retailer) won't give the money back as there is no best practice to protect the customers here.)

So bottom line, in India its the business community (Saw a business man's sibling bragging about getting a 980 at less than 40K since he has connections and how his importer helped to declare that it is a gift from US / educational purpose use item 😍.) who are protected, not the actual customers, thanks to our superb govt policies, which takes account traders are always less affluent than the customers and consumer rights are only applicable to Groceries (and see how the price of veggies change so rapidly :pfff:).

Last note - You can try to import. But if that has an existing SKU selling through the local market, then they have people watching in customs, and in all probability will detain the shipment / or fine you for importing the item by quoting different bizarre reasons (including disturbing business environment.). Better go and have a talk with a drop ship logistics provider, and ask that company to bring it for you from wherever in the world you want. That way you are guaranteed a hassle free shipment, but no guarantee on the product.

For those who are wondering, I am from Kolkata and in the last decade I have tried everything. You will always need to shell out 25% - 40% more budget when you have specific computer parts in mind. Better start SIPs with good returns I guess.... ::pt1cable: :pt1cable: :pt1cable:
