Hi

When I bought my new MSI GeForce GTX 970, it came with a 6 to 8 pin convertor.
I had to use it, because my PSU only has 2 6 pin connectors.
However, the 8 pin connector only had 7 metal thingies in it.

I still connected it to my graphics card, and it seems to work. I can play GTA 5 on high settings, but it seems to lag a bit (35-50 fps)
I can take some photos if that'll help

Solution
There are actually only 7 required wires in an 8-pin connector and 5 required in a 6-pin connector. Most times you will see an additional ground added.

6-pin = 12V x2, 2 GND, one sensor (Carries voltage, but not a load) ~= 120W max (75W rated) @ 18 gauge
8-pin = 12V x 3, 3 GND, one sensor (Carries voltage, but not a load) ~= 180W max (150W rated) @ 18 gauge

full system specs?

do you monitor temps?

Don't laugh lol, just recently got the card and going to upgrade the rest after
Intel Q6600 overclocked to 3.0GHz
GTX 970
P43-ES3G
DDR2 8 GB (old af)
600 Watt PSU
Windows 10

GPU at 52°C (125.6 F) when idling, 76°C (168.8 F) when in MSI Kombustor

yeah gta lags because of your processor
