I have a GTX 970 and i wanna upgrade because i have a 144hz monitor but most games dont run 144hz with my single 970. So should i spend another $100USD and get another 970 or sell and get upgrade to a GTX 1070 or 1080?

RIG:
MB: MSI Z270 SLI PLUS
CPU: I7-7700k Stock Delided w/ LM
CPUC: NOCTUA NH-U14S
PSU: Corsair CX750m
RAM: 16GB DDR4
STORAGE: 120GB SSD + 2TB HDD
FANS: 5 120mm

Well, your rig would support it, but I'd still recommend against it. Unless you've verified that the games you play support SLI well, and even then I'd probably rather just upgrade.
most likely Upgrade then but probably will look for used instead of new. On a Budget. Spent most of my money on a new MB CPU and Ram

Depending on the game's you play I'd lean more towards a 1080 or better. I had a 1070 And 144hz monitor and in some titles it still struggled. It will probably do close to 100 In a lot of titles, but asking for 144 is a bit much. The used market is fairly decent right now, and will probably get better with all the new cards dropping soon.

Also do you really need 144? I find myself more than happy at anything over 80, and of course anything over 60 is still more than good. But that's a personal opinion, and everyone has different needs/wants/goals.

I'd upgrade to the fastest card you can afford. It's very rare that SLI turns out to be the best choice. In your case it sounds to me like you've outgrown what the 970 can do for you, even in SLI configuration. It's no surprise, that card is kind of old for anything other than standard 1080p 60hz gaming.
