Hello,
I booted up my PC today and opened a firefox tab for some browsing. After 5 minutes or so the air around the PC case felt warmer than it usually does. I started Speccy and it showed that my GPU was running at 70 degrees C cause I usually get 65-68 degrees temp while I'm playing games. At the time only one tab in Firefox was open.
I searched the internet and came across a few threads here that said there might be a bit/dogecoin mining virus running and some suggested getting process hacker and see which program is using the GPU.
I also downloaded malwarebytes and ran a complete scan. It detected an unwanted program in my temp files, which I quarantined. But when I restarted the PC the problem was still there, i.e. 5 minutes after booting the GPU would get under 70% load and hit 70 degrees.
I got process hacker later on and found out a .exe called wabmig.exe using 580 MB of GPU memory. I Terminated the program and the gpu load went down to 0%-4% and the temperature came down to 45 degrees, along with the GPU core and memory clock.
Is wabmig.exe a virus? I did a simple search in windows explorer and 2 copies of that program showed up in two different folders under C/Windows/WinSxS
It has never happened to me before and I haven't downloaded/installed anything recently. Even malwarebytes didn't identify this exe as a malware.
