So I put my old heat sink the reference one, on my 980 after the atrocious evga all in one cooler, and the light very dimly shines. I try tweaking the led settings in geforce experience but no luck. At one point it lit up to 100% and after a few reboots it was gone, if anyone knows a store that sells reference coolers or lights, that would still be much appreciated.

Solution
Idk search Google theres websites like this http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/category/189/connectors-multi-pin/1.html

It kind of looks like this connector (could be wrong) http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/sbc-2/small-battery-connector-beige/1.html

Then buy a led http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_p_89_1?fst=as%3Aoff&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Aled+diodes%2Cp_89%3AGeneric%7Cuxcell&keywords=led+diodes&ie=UTF8&qid=1461141324&rnid=2528832011

Wire and tape it up + and - There should be light unless there is something wrong with your cards bios or something else.

I'm not sure what the connector is called on the GTX 980 for the led visualization. I'm sure that place will have one that will fit. Contact support at that...

I'm not sure if this would help or not. I've had this problem before awhile ago. I don't remember exactly how I fixed it. I's sure you tried the basics pulling the card out and reinstalling it. Reinstall the driver. E.T.C. I think if you uninstall the driver suite and reinstall the driver don't use the express install. Go to custom install the driver only then download Geforce experience seperately I think that worked for me. It's been awhile. I hope that helps.

You dont uninstall nothing seperately you install the driver and geforce experience seperately.Go to Nvidia website download the latest driver for your graphics card do not install it yet. Then in control panel Uninstall everything Nvidia. Restart your computer. Now the driver you downloaded click on it. It will start then when prompted choose custom install the driver only.No other software. Install the driver. After that's installed go to Google type Nvidia GeForce experience and download that. Install it restart computer. Open GeForce experience. And try the light settings again.

Contact support at that website I'm sure they can help. That's the route I would go build my own. don't splice the original. I couldn't find them anywhere though. Thats what I could find. And it's cheap.
