gtx 980 sound problem

my friend just recently upgraded from a r9 270x to a evga gtx 980 ftw and he is having static sound problems. it wasnt happening with his 270x before, only when he got his new GPU. any ideas how to fix it? hes already unplugged every usb device except his razor kraken headset. and the static is still there. even with his old turtlebeaches px22, he hears static. . hes tried every usb port on his computer, front and back. he can play gta 5 on max settings with his 980 under full load and the static is pretty consistent, so i dont think its EMI interference.

any help?

how would he do it? he was wired into the power strip, and the static was still there, then he plugged directly into the wall socket and the static was still there.

did he happen to switch power cords? or remove anything from the case when installing a new gpu? is the power supply secured to the case?

he didnt switch power cords, and the only thing he removed was the stock cpu cooler and switched it out for a evo 212, and his r9 270x

do you mean the 3.5mm audio input? then yes, his px22s did have static.
