Hey guys I am building a new PC with the following specs:

CPU: Intel i5 8400
MOBO: Gigabyte Z370XP SLI
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 8GBX2 3200MHz
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB Hard Drive
PSU: Antec NeoEco 650M

This will primarily be a Gaming PC. Fact to be noted, I won't have the budget to upgrade within at least the next 4 years and I play at 1080p with Textures always at ULTRA .

Also to be noted that I will playing games like The Witcher 3, Rise of The Tomb Raider, COD WWII, Battlefield 1, Mafia 3, GTA V, Some Indie games, Visual Novels and running Persona 5 on RPCS3 and other games like the ones mentioned above in the future.

Now I have 2 options that make sense due to the GPU market:
1) Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti Xtreme Gaming for 510$
2) Leadtek WinFast GTX 1070 Ti for 480$

Both of the cards are brand new and from reputable retailers in my country.

The gigbyte card has a much beefier cooler and is heavily factory overclocked while the leadtek card has a reference design with minimal heatsinks. And seeing as I live in Southeast Asia, ambient temperatures reach around 35-40 degrees Celsius in Summer. So, seeing as I intend for them to last me at least 4 years what would you guys recommend?

1) Leadtek WinFast GTX 1070 Ti for 480$ <- where? all the 1070ti I see are running 1300$
2) the GTX 980 TI draws ALOT of power 250W compared to the 1070ti. and is according to PassMark, does not score has high as the 1070ti. ( 11327 versus 12325 for 1070 TI)
3) GTX 1070 ti has newer chipset, only draws 180w.
4) the gigabyte video card has better ventilation, and will produce ALOT more heat in your computer case, so you primary ventilation will be important in your case.
5) the 1070ti single fan design, can be helped with a in slot blower type card to draw air out of video card and push it out of case . and it should not overheat at all during gaming .(costs like 9$)

hard choices, if it was me I would go for the 1070 TI at that price.

Honestly the 1070ti is overkill for 1080p gaming. I'd go for the 980ti, especially since that particular 1070ti is a pretty garbage brand. Also he might live in a country that isn't affected by crypto-miners

For 1080p both cards are more than capable. The GTX 1070 Ti performs better, is the latest generation and has a lower TDP as well. The only argument I can bring up for the 980 Ti is that you could get that one way cheaper second hand.

So from what I understand you are saying that as long as I can keep the heat under check either card should last me 4 years comfortably without breaking down? Unless they were defective to begin with that is.

Tbh I wouldn't take a gamble with a relatively unknown manufacturer, aka the 1070ti

Yeah that's the real problem. If it was an Asus Turbo or something like that I would be much more inclined to buy it as it is cheaper, faster and less power hungry.

I personally believe the 980ti will work just fine for you, especially since you are only going for 1080p gaming. With more quality behind the build, and better airflow than the 1070ti, I see this card being the best suited for you.

Leadtek as a brand has been around for a very long time. They were around when I bought my first video card, the Nvidia Geforce 4 Ti 4200 and earlier. Currently I hear they are only available in Asia. The Vanilla Winfast 1070 Ti (mentioned by OP) has a blower style cooler.

Me personally, I'd save some cash, and get better performance from the 1070 Ti. Sure it may be marginal at times, but the 1070 Ti leads it by up to 20+fps in some games.

Case in point. Both cards are "Reference" cards

I own an EVGA 980Ti SC, and if presented with those options currently and not having my current card, I'd pick the 1070 Ti.

Though Leadtek has been around for a long time, they don't seem to have ever been major players in the graphics card market whether that be for "Gaming" GPUs or Professional Workstation GPUs. And based on my research asking people around, it seems that at least in my country these cards from Leadtek have really been hit and miss. Hence my fears of landing a bad or defective GPU being much higher with the Leadtek one.

And considering that the Gigabyte 980 Ti Xtreme is heavily factory overclocked and with high grade components at least according to Gigabyte's claim, I find myself leaning more and more towards 980 Ti. Because it seems to be too much of a gamble with the Leadtek card.

Sure the 1070ti will have higher fps, but both cards are EASILY capable of handling 100+ fps on 1080p, which is what he will be gaming on for the next 4 years. Heck I get 100+ fps on almost max graphiocs on AAA games at 1440p witrh my 1070ti, which is why I think it really is overkill.

It really doesn't matter to me all that if I get like 5 less FPS when I am already at or above 60 FPS @1080p Max Textures. So I think I am gonna stick with the Gigabyte 980 Ti Xtreme for greater reliability.

Thank you to everyone who answered and for providing valuable observations.

BTW for anyone wondering, I am going to be putting this build in the new MESH Cooler Master H500P. So I expect the build to look pretty dope. And I am changing the PSU to a more reliable Corsair TX650M.

You won't find either for those prices. The GPU pricing issues affects older high end cards going back as far as GTX 780 and Radeon 280. Be prepared to pay around double MSRP for a high end card of any generation ATM. I recommend waiting a few months.

If you must buy now get the newer card. The Pascal architecture is a lot better.

You didn't ready my Original Post clearly did you? In MY country those are the official retail prices of those cards at Reputed computer stores. I do not live in the States. And yes, I must buy now. So within THAT context, I'd appreciate it if you had any OTHER constructive arguments of choosing the Leadtek 1070 Ti over the Gigabyte 980 Ti Xtreme other than what has already been posted.

And by Official prices I mean that I physically went to the Stores and asked them about these products. And yes, they were on display at that time. I told them to hold on to them for me cause I've known these guys for awhile. So I'm going to be getting my build withing the next 2-3 days.
