I have a Asus GTX 970 that I bought at my local store 2 days ago for a total of $380. I have an option to get a Zotac GTX 980 for $550 from tigerdirect.

Would the $170 be justifiable to upgrade to the 980?

I want to add that I have a 144hz monitor so even a 10% increase in FPS will be worth it.

SLI 970 is out of the option because I cannot shell out another $300. $170 is a big price upgrade for me, but since I have a 144 hz monitor and I have been capping games @ ~90 FPS (more modern FPS games like COD/BF) then a 10% upgrade is actually huge for me. I have also heard bad stories about SLI and how many games are not optimized.

Indeed - since i'm running a paltry 60hz monitor. I can tell the difference between 40 and 60 frames pretty easily.

I haven't moved to 144hz since I'm unwilling to spring for sli cards to drive it at or near its refresh. I'm not sure you'll feel or a see difference of 12 if you're already way up at 90 - but you might! Bettin it would be noticable going from 90 to 144.

Not doggin' your desire - it's your money and gaming experience. Happy is all that matters in the end and if the 980 scratches the itch then it's a win!

I'd like to hear from someone whose tried both a 970 and 980 at such a high refresh so check back in :)
