GTX 980 vs GTX 1060

Reading alot (too much actually) I realized that beside the Pascal technology, the 980 will be far way faster than a GTX 1060. In Italy they are sold at the same price more or less (weird country ikr). Should I buy the 980 ( NOT ti) in your opinion?

I don't think a 980 is worth buying at the moment, given the 480X is out and the 1060 is coming out.

But both will be slower than GTX 980 .. Reading their tests.. they seem to be not better of any 980. They position below

No one actually knows performance right now. Given the touted +15% over a 480 and given this http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1748?vs=1716

I'd suggest a 1060 is roughly equal to a 980, and that's where nvidia have said that they are aiming it. So i'm not seeing anything that says the 980 is way faster than the 1060.

Before releasing of 1060, its not suitable to say that it will be faster/equal to 980. If it comes to equal in performance and price is same or even little more than 980 then you have to go with 1060, as it will be energy effeicent because of new technology and may have some other features too. Also, it can become reality that 1060 comes with high performance.

1060 will likely be somewhere between 970 and 980, nearer 980 with less power draw and running cooler by all accounts. A 980 seems a poor choice right now and usually has been due to it's odd pricing vs 970 and 980ti

I've read that the boost clock speed on the 1060 will be significantly faster than the 980, and because of the new Pascal design, they are saying the OC ability for this card will be great. Like ak195 said though, we really won't know anything for sure until they actually release the card and we get some accurate benchmarks for it. Until then, we're just taking Nvidia's word for it.

Looking purely at paper specs vs 1070 (=980ti) and 1080 (>all) the 1060 scales somewhere around the 970. But this is purely in terms of shaders/bits etc. I wouldn't expect more than 980 performance.
