I have a budget of around £1000 (allowing a bit over) excluding hard drive and os.
I play mainly on 1080p and I would like a really nice looking build but also performance.
Is the 980ti overkill or would you go for it anyway.

980ti can only squeeze in at £1000 so if you want it nice looking too i would just settle for a 970 for the time being. I would say a 980 but the price performance is not great so only get a 980 if you feel its justified. Or even buy an extreme overclocked 970 which will pull the same as a 980.

TL;DR 980Ti overkill anyway, 970 best option unless 980 is preferred

The 980Ti isn't overkill for 1080p, it depends and how you play. I game at 144+ FPS and hate SLI so that the main reason i upgrade from a GTX 970 SLI to a GTX 980Ti.

If you have a 1080p 60HZ monitor then you're better off just getting a GTX 970 since it will be able to max most games at 60+ FPS. I have always just buy the best single card i can regardless of how powerful it is at the time because in a year or two its not going to be as power as it were.

TL;DR If you can fit a GTX 980Ti in your budget then do so. 980 isn't worth it IMO.
