so i has some money to kill and i been looking at titan vs 690 , now i never had dual GPU setup before and, my PSU is limited its HX650W and by looking at SLI 680s noise and power consumption seems be full on and whats more full on is HD 7970s Crossfire even use more power and even LOUDER!!

so what do i do? i'm liking titan but everyone says it main use is for 3 monitor setup, and i only play on 1 monitor and have small TV screen as monitoring screen (120hz Samsung 3D), issue is tho i don't like how my GTX 580 gets super hot with 2 screens , i live in Australia so its gets hot here. and this new tech boost 2.0 is very nice , but there is problem with micro-shutting with SLI and crossfire, and i don't think i want micro-shutting i don't know if il notice it and honestly 690 looks be cheaper then titan

also i has i5 2500k CPU if i get titan or 690 suggest i OC it? i has try to oc it once before but constant high volts static makes me annoyed i want it to be dynamic and drop were there is no load but issues is i am unable figure out how do that soons i up voltage it goes static!!! and constant high voltage and im not happy with that i want high voltage only be use under load.

i keep going back and forwards GTX 690 or Titan way anyone give me a run down how much OC titan vs stock 690 if it possible to reach 690 fps ? this is were is be interesting OCing titan to match 690 and then hoping to god that current drivers are not well optimized for titan if that is case then titan should win

It's not the FPS performance that makes the Titan attractive versus the GTX 690, but the frame latency:

Quote:
"When it comes to a consistent gameplay experience, the TITAN is head, shoulders and knees above its compatriots. The low standard deviation shown between frame times is a fraction of what other solutions offer, which in turn leads to significantly smoother onscreen performance. For example, the GTX 690 exhibits many of the issues normally associated with dual GPU cards like minor stuttering and outright frame hesitation, a situation the TITAN deftly avoids by virtue of being a single core solution. Gamers won’t have to wait for the latest SLI profile for optimal new game support either. So while the GTX 690 may outclass the TITAN in terms of raw framerate production, the GK110 clearly holds the edge this key area. Even though it is a single GPU solution, AMD’s HD 7970 GHz just isn’t in the same league as the GeForce TITAN. Its comparative frame times border on abysmal and no amount of overclocking will improve that fact."

If you are wanting to do something like VR, or you are a great and ultra competitive gamer, latency is the problem. Shut up and get the Titan. If you play on a regular TV, especially a really nice HD screen, the latancy in the screen is much larger than the card will give you. Shut up and get the 2 7970s. So if you cannot tell the difference between a tv screen and a low latency monitor, get the dual 7970s. They will look the smoothest at the highest resolutions, but the latency will definitely be higher. If you plan on using any VR soon, or you are an excellently competitive gamer, than use the Titan. If you want the most eye melting graphics your screen can hold and the money for Crysis 3 to give it to you, get dual Radeon 7970s. Oh, and Phys-x is nividia exclusive, but few games use it and I expect other GPU accelerated physics to be getting more popular. Though maybe not with Phys-x support on PS4... I would still go with two 7970s. Not me personally, I will do VR. Dual Radeon 7970s offer usually about the same to a little more performance than dual GTX 680s.

I'm having the exact same problem. I'm completely stuck between the following video cards in my Maingear F131 build:

2x AMD Radeon HD 7970 6GB Total GDDR5 in CrossFire w/Eyefinity ($800)
2x EVGA GeForce GTX 680 Classified 8GB TOtal GDDR5 in SLI ($1,176)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN 6GB GDDR5 3D Vision Surround w/PhysX ($890)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690 4GB GDDR5 3D Vision Surround w/PhysX ($990)

What do you guys think that these prices? I will be playing on a 27", 2560x1440p monitor (a Dell U2713HM, specifically).

Here's a link to the customization page.

I will be paying close attention to this thread, since it's a very tough decision. I've been told by several people to pay attention to the amount of memory/RAM in the video card (but only in each single GPU--not the combined GPUs in SLI or in the GTX 690), so the appeal of dual GTX 680 4GB cards is nice. That is what I'm leaning towards, but it's also by far the most expensive option. The CrossFire 7970s come with tons of free games, but they don't even look like they offer the GHz option on the Maingear page, do they? So should I cross the 7970s off the list?

If I did cross the AMD cards off my list, then it would be between SLI GTX 680s (4GB), a GTX 690, and a TITAN. I've heard some reports that both GTX 690s and SLI GTX 680s offer higher FPS than the TITAN, which makes me wary about getting that card. I'm also wary about having to update in the future. What makes me wary about the GTX 690 is that it only has 2GB RAM per GPU, which seems to be a bit on the low end when it comes to stuff like modded-out Skyrim or perhaps games of the future that will require more VRAM (is this the same thing as the 6GB RAM in a TITAN, or is VRAM an AMD proprietary term?).
