i Recently upgraded my PC from a Sapphire R9 280x to a Asus Strix GTX 1070 OC and i'm a little disappointed in the results. I've searched online and I think it has something to do with my RAM. Ive run a RAM benchmark (Roadkil Mem Test) and its telling me that my read times are about 7Gbps and my write times are 22Gbps. Is this creating a bottleneck? Would Buying better RAM fix the issue?

I've tried to search the internet to compare the results and can't find any info.

My system spec is
Intel i7 4790k
Asus Z97-Pro Motherboard
G.Skill 8GB DDR3-1600 RipjawsX, F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM. (2x4GB)
Asus Strix GTX 1070 OC
Corsair Builder Series CXM 750W Modular 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX/EPS PSU
Corsair Hydro Series H55 High Performance All-in-One Liquid CPU Cooler
Crucial CT240M500SSD1 240GB M500 SATA 6Gb/s 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive
Seagate 1TB HDD

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd love to upgrade to DDR4 but i'm lacking the £££'s at the moment.

Was looking at Corsair 16GB (2x 8GB) PC2400 CL11 Vengeance Pro VenPk DDR3 DIMM RAM Memory Module
on amazon hoping that would fix the issue

I don't agree with General_Cool, the 4790k is still a very viable CPU and there is no need to upgrade, unless you really wanted to. As for the RAM, you may just have a couple bad sticks. I would check ASUS's site to see what RAM is approved for your mobo and purchase some new and see if that helps. The rest of your build looks pretty strong so there is no reason to scrap it and start over.

Make sure you check compatibility on ASUS's website before you buy.

Ram speed does little to affect gaming going from 1600 to 2400 might get you a couple extra frames a cpu and ram intensive game. When you upgraded did you completely remove the AMD drivers and software? Run a system benchmark and see what it shows you.

Yes i uninstalled the AMD drivers, restarted the pc. Then installed the new graphics card and drivers. I ran userbench and my RAM scored 62.9%
MC Read 21.9
MC Write 22.4
MC Mixed 19.1
60% 21.1 GB/s

It was this post that led me to believe that it could be a ram issue as my RAM speeds look similar

playing Resident Evil 7 currently. With the 280x was running at max setting 60fps 1080p at between 55% to 88% gpu usage. Was getting slight stuttering when loading between areas. The 1070 is running the same settings with 1.5x up scaling at is hitting 100% usage. Im also playing rust and getting crazy fps swings, but that games all over the place in terms of optimisation anyway.
