Hi,

I built a new pc just under a month ago and it has been fine until yesterday, i started to notice on games the GPU load would shoot up bringing the temprature up which then brought aload of noise as my fans tried to cope with this. I have not oc'ed it (as far as i am aware!) It is the Gigabyte xtreme gaming edition, i checked MSI Afterburner and Gigabytes software they offer and both seem to show my core clock and memory clock maxing out, on the afterburner the voltage limit goes from 0 to 1 and shows it flatlining as if it is maximum, on gigabytes software it seems more specific and again when i start a game it flatlines, specificly at 1063mv

As i said this was fine until the past couple days, it almost seems to be i have clicked some sort of overclock without realising and this is causing it to max out or something?

GPU - GTX1080 Xtreme Gaming
CPU - I7 6700k - Liquid cooled via NZXT Kraken X61
Motherboard - MSI XPOWER Titatnium Edition
RAM - Corsar vengence 32gb @ 3200mhz

Solution
I will get laughed at for this but i think what was worrying me was my NZXT kraken fans would run extremely loud and this would make me think oh dear somethings getting hot as it is on auto.. It turns out in the NZXT CAM software you can choose between the fan speed automatically adjusting for either the liquid temp, CPU temp or the GPU temp, it looks like silly me changed it to GPU by accident without adjusting the graph to fit a GPU more. Have put it on CPU and fans are running as quiet as they should and GPU temp currently hovering around 65 while in use

Sorry everyone 😀 😀

Hi Marcus,

Im having a similar issue to you. I had my PC upgraded on Saturday, 90% of the parts upgraded. Including new RAM, motherboard, CPU, Cooling etc... Im using a Gigabyte G1 Gaming gtx1080 Card. My new specs are below, but ever since the upgrade i am constantly getting MSI Afterburner to show me that the GPU is running at 100% capacity, temperature is at 86c constantly with fans running at 70% on the GPU. Even when no game is running the temp is showing around 42c.

Meanwhile the CPU's are showing very good temps at about 40-46c when gaming.

I am playing graphic heavy games such as Homefront 2 on full settings in 1080p and Rise of the tomb raider in 4k in directx12 with mostly full setting aswell. No Overclocking is done apart from the CPU one from the motherboard BIOS.

GPU - Gigabyte G1 Gaming GeForce GTX 1080
CPU - Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz - Corsair H100i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard - MSI Z170A Gaming M7 Intel Socket LGA1151 Skylake Motherboard
RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
SSD - Samsung 950 PRO NVMe M.2 512 GB Solid State Drive
