Unfortunately I am not in the position to buy new, but would like to upgrade to a new graphics card as I currently play World of Warcraft (Mists Expansion) and get terrible frame rates (single numbers) especially in 10 and 25 man raids.

I have been reading about a new card NVIDIA GTX 750TI that claims to run at lower power requirements. I have also read on line that running this card with a 250 watt power supply is possible and that many run graphics cards at less than recommended numbers (http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/Upgrade-Story-Can-GTX-750-Ti-Convert-OEMs-PCs-Gaming-Pcs).

NVIDIA says 300 Watts, Various manufactures say 400 Watts, others say 250 Watts is ok…..CONFUSION!!

I also see where there is great disagreement with this practice. Can someone please advise me as the best route I should take and clear up the confusion?

MY bad I made an error I actually have 3GB of memory not 2GB!!!
Would you still be concerned more about the 3GB of memory over the 250 watt power supply? Its strange because each place I check has different requirements for the same card. NVIDIA says 300 watt PSU and 2GB memory the manufactures like PNY state 400 watt PSU 2GB memory but 4GB would be better. Then the like I put in the orig. post says the card runs fin at 250 watt PSU . Thats why I'm confused. The other issues is that I know little about this issue.

I don't think you will find someone in here recommending running the card on a 250W PSU but that isn't the same to say it's not possible. Just keep in mind that your PSU is probably a bit old as well and may have lost some juice over the years. If your PC is stripped down to only necessary hardware (eg. no cd drive, extra hard drives etc.) you'll probably be able to pull it off. Remember that the recommended PSU wattage from manufacture is with a safety factor and given that you have some "extra" hardware besides the absolutely necessary.
I think you should be fine. If you only need to play WoW I think the 750 ti would be overkill though given the rest of your PC's hardware.

Thanks for the response. I did make an error I actually have 3GB of memory. I am not running anything additional other than what came stock with the system as listed above. The problem is if I try and select a different card it ends up needing a higher PSU and/or one needing an additional power connection. Do you have any card suggestions? And again thanks for the help!!!

And yeah try choosing the hd 5750 in the video card space(if it's compatible with your psu then, congrats but if it's not, try subtracting 40W, and if it still doesn't come withi the range of your PSU, I'm sorry but you have no other choice than to buy a new better PSU).
Note- Try upgrading your CPU too.

I will be upgrading the power supply, but I hoped I could run a higher level graphics card with the rest of my system without a bottleneck, but no sense in putting in a GPU that the CPU can't support and vise versa. So if the hd 5750 is the highest one I guess it is what it is!!! Again thanks for you help!!!

Yes I will be upgrading the PSU, now to locate the best and compatable GPU.

If you decide to go for a cheap solution without upgrading your power supply, check out this card.
Of course its not going to come close to the power of a GTX 750 Ti, but it will be a significant upgrade from your integrated GeForce graphics. Should make for a nice balanced system with your Athlon X2 CPU.

It's the GeForce GT 630 Kepler, 384 CUDA cores.

here are some benchmarks for you to check out.

You will be fine with your 250 watt power supply with this card.
The card has a 25 watt Maximum Graphics Card Power requirement.

Good luck in your upgrading. :)
