Gtx760 showing weird patterns

So i just got this GTX 760 from EVGA and for the first 8 hours it worked fine and then all of a sudden i was minimized while waiting for a game to start and then it wouldn't maximize and iwas running dual monitors at this time. When the freeze finally stopped my monitors flipped out saying something froze or w/e involing xprofile 264 and then my monitor looked like it was a screen full of broken black glass.


I restarted my pc tried running another game and theni started getting black voxel like patterns and then i updated my driver which i was scared of because nvidia has had a trend of releasing shitty unstable driver updates and after that i tried playing a game again and then the screen started blinking and giving miss colors and i don't know what else to do to check to see what problem is or to see how to fix it

Strange is the card used or new? also if its used clean out the dust with a paint brush or something else. Also make sure the GPUs settings are on normal so that means its not overclocked or something heat could cause the problem as well,and maybe it could be that your PSU cant handle anymore so it gives up especially when you play games, give me you full specs

Looks like an overclock issue. It could be the out-of-the-box overclock of the card. You may try turning it down a bit using EVGA Precision, and see if the games run stable and successfully. If you're running the card overclocked, you may want to run it at its default speed. If it's still not ok, try uninstalling drivers, and install the latest one. I know you're wary of the potential driver issues, but I think it's worth the risk. If it turns out as shitty, you can always revert it back. Also, there's no harm in trying.

Also, another possible cause is the power stability. Your card may not be getting enough juice. I have an ASUS GTX 760 DirectCUII, and it kept crashing at its maximum overclocked settings. I tried plugging in additional SATA power to my board, and it solved the problem. I never have sudden crashes when I launch games.

RMA the card.

Sure, you can LOWER the GPU frequency to troubleshoot but it seems pretty certain the card isn't working as advertised. If dropping only a very SMALL amount works for you maybe you'd want to stick with that to avoid the entire RMA hassle. Up to you.

The graphics card gets its power from the Power Supply via the main connector through the motherboard and the PCIe 6-pin connectors. You can't add additional power, especially not SATA. SATA is solely for SSD's, HDD's etc.

Yes, I'm fully aware of that, but my motherboard (Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H) came with an extra SATA power port to feed the videocard extra power (as far as what online reviews, and the manual say). It's the one on the right side beside the 8x regular SATA ports. It's a dedicated SATA power connector on the side of the board to provide additional power to the PCI-E slots should you overclock, or use multiple VGA or expansion cards.

I'm just not sure if this is a standard feature, or just exclusive to this particular Gigabyte mobo.
