GTX980 bad performance in bf4

Hi!
So i have a gtx 980 and a amd fx 8350 @ stock. And i only get 50-60 fps in battlefield 4 (depending on the map of course). I'm pretty certain it's not a bottle neck because i've seen people use a amd 8350 with 2 gtx980:s without bottlenecking. But when i change the graphics from ultra to low i only gain around 10 frames, wich seems like a bottleneck. But it shouldn't be bottleneck? I'm so confused.

And from what i remember when i just got my gtx 980 i played on ultra with 80-100 fps without dropping below 80 a single time. Oh and i noticed in hwinfo that the "video engine load" never goes over 30 % and most of the times stay at 0%, is that the problem?

What temp is your CPU running the game at?

Try with just a 2 x 4gb ram kit.

The temp on the cpu stays between 45-56 celcius. I will try with 2x4 gb rams tomorrow since i don't have time now.

Chances are it is your HDD. My rule of thumb when building current systems is only using HDD for storage and SSD for everything else. Mechanical hard drives are GUARANTEED to fail, it's just a matter of 2-5 years roughly. They having moving parts and over time will wear down. I recommend installing BF onto your SSD and see if the problem persists. I will go out on a limb here and say that your problem will be solved.

Plus, your memory will (3 of 4 sticks), etc.. will have no impact on the problem you are describing.

Trust me, it's your HDD.

Oh that might explain that i have been noticing longer load times in other games like company of heroes 2. But why would the hdd me lose like 50 frames? Anyways so you suggest that i should install windows on my hdd instead? Because i don't have room for bf4 plus windows on the ssd.

You should install windows and any program/game you'd like to perform consistently on your SSD. I would recommend you save to upgrade to a 256GB SSD and just use that for everything and your HDD for storage (where you aren't using it all the time).

In terms of the problem you are experiencing and how it relates to your HDD. When you load battlefield, there are four things that are really activated when playing the game (cpu, gpu, system memory and your hard drive). Keep in mind that you've installed all the assets of Battlefield (sounds, graphics, 3d models, animations, etc..) onto your HDD. So when your cpu needs to access the data and tell it where to go (system memory or vram), it is accessing everything from your HDD and sending to the appropriate source. That is why you are experiencing slow downs. The slower your HDD gets the slower your load times will be, the slower your game will perform, the slower the necessary information is accessed, etc..

This is the one thing I recommend anyone who is experiencing a sluggish computer or building a new one - get an SSD You will not go back.

Not necessarily true. I've built over 70 computers and those who wish to keep their original/old mechanical hard drives would upgrade a full system and experience the same slow down they had before - as if the upgrades didn't give them ANY performance boost. If you read my explanation above, hard drives are guaranteed to fail and WILL fail. So when someone makes the case for system memory isn't addressing the much more overlooked issue.

ISSUE: Another huge issue when using an HDD is that your virtual memory is being dumped to a much slower hard drive. So when it needs to access that data it is painstakingly slow compared to your system memory. Also, even though HDD run on SATA III they are still limited by how fast the platters spin in the HDD.

Trust me it's your hard drive. This has been the solution for many people on this forum. Memory configuration wouldn't have that big of an impact on your games. You can even look at memory benchmarks and see that there is no real world advantage to even faster memory.

It can be completely defraged, reformatted and analayzed as good and will still experience slow downs because the hard drive is experiencing more friction or a slow down on the motors. Bad sectors or corrupt files will have the potential to cause BSOD's. Even if you have a new hard drive it is still limited by the platter speed and is no where near the speed or reliability of current SSD's.

But like I said before.. Trust me, it's your hard drive. I have a friend with a nearly identical setup and he experienced the same issue.

bf4 runs better on windows 8 especially with a cpu with more threads
having core parking disabled is known to help performance a lot in bf4 regardless of win7/8
this motherboard is known to set vcore high and the turbo not function

I've had it for 3-4 years.
I tried to only use 2 ram sticks and that didn't change anything so i guess you're right. Sadly i don't have the money to buy a new hdd or ssd ;(. But when i have money what hdd/ssd should i be going for? Thanks for the help btw

I just tried to move the game verdun to my ssd instead off my hdd. And i didn't notice ANY fps increase, and the fps is really low in that game for me (around 20-35 fps). I guess it isn't the hardrive afterall. Should i make a new thread since i can't remove the best answer?
