I believe the big difference is advertising. Many didn't know what Android was until the Droid. Just because a product makes a huge splash on a tech site doesn't mean its going to do well, unless it gets out of the niche tech blogosphere. Nobody I know personally know the JooJoo exists. Everyone I seem to know personally knows about the iPad, even if they don't know anything specific.
