Can I possibly install a formatted hard drive as a slave in a workstation running windows 2000 and copy some data from the master drive even I don't have an administrator priveleges? thanks

as long as you have rights to move the data then yes - which is probably the case unless restrictions have been applied, chances are if you can see and access the data, then you can copy it
