Guide to overclocking i7 2600k

Hi guys

I see there are plenty of OC guides, but I would like a guide that would specifically help me.

I am a complete noob at overclocking, so any tips and help would be much appreciated.

I have a cooler master v8 cpu cooler, in a aercool xpredator chassis with 2 x 200mm aerocool fans and 2 x 140mm aerocool sharks fans. Would i be able to OC effectively, and will the gains really be worth it?

This guide has not been updated since it was written but it is a place to start learning.

The Sandy bridge CPU was a versatile overclocker and there were various ways to go about overclocking any of the unlocked multiplier Ks.

Some wanted to overclock with all of Intels features enabled, some wanted to overclock with some of the Intel features disabled, and some all the Intel features disabled.

Some wanted to run offset CPU voltage overclock, some fixed CPU voltage overclock, and also played around with LLC (Load Line Calibration settings), so the first real step for you is deciding the exact approach you desire to take to overclock your 2600K, then learn and go from there.

Thanks Ryan, had a look at that earlier. Would I have enough cooling power to OC effectively? And will I be able to notice a difference by OCing up to lets say 4.4ghz?

I added to the post read that as well?

With the V8 you should easily be able to clock to 4.5ghz ~ maybe 4.7ghz and possibly further, the key is learning how to get what your are after, the capabilities are there.

And yes you will be able to notice the difference, especially if you overclock all 4 cores and control the throttling.

Overclocking with an air cooler like the V8 means you have got to have good airflow through the case, the best air cooler cannot do it's job without fresh air supplied to it and the heat properly exhausted from the case, the cooler you keep the CPU the further you can overclock it.
