H150i PRO compatibility?

Currently I have I7 6700K and a Gigabyte Z170M- D3H DDR3. I am thinking about getting a Ryzen 1700 and a decent motherboard not very expensive but great for OC with RBG lights. Also I have the cooling system H150i PRO but I need to know the CPU and Motherboard compatibility. Can you guys recommend a great mothearboard and advice the H150I pro is compatible with Ryzen 1700? I would also appreciate if you can recommend a great MB. Currently I have 16GB DDR memory ram I want to use with the new parts.

Yeah that cooler supports socket AM4, so you're OK there.

Not sure why you want to swap to that CPU. You're asking in the PC Gaming forum, so I have to think gaming performance is of utmost importance. The 1700 only equals the 6700k at best, and in a lot of games loses to it. It would really only give you better performance for non gaming related tasks, where heavy threading comes into play.

Anyway, your RAM is going to have to be DDR4 on the new MB, and preferably 3200, because Ryzen needs fast RAM. The video I posted uses 3600 RAM, and the 1700 still lags behind on some games.

Anyway, here's a great AM4 MB that's on sale at a pretty good price right now.

Best CPU than I7 6700K as you mentioned gaming area is essential for me but I'd definitely use the power of all the Ryzen 1700 performance for non gaming tasks. In my opinion value-price the CPU is best than the intel processor but you made me think twice as you mentioned: (The 1700 only equals the 6700k at best, and in a lot of games loses to it). Did you mean as far as the 6700K is overclocked is as powerful as the Ryzen 1700 (in normal frecuency). Also the last part you mentioned I would need to get DDR4 memory ram as the Ryzen does use more memory. Does it mean that no DDR3 Memory would work at all with the ryzen and motherboards supporting AM4? Thank you for replying again.

It also depends what res you play at. When you go to 1440p, or especially 4k, the 1700 can hang even with a heavily OCed 8600k, and those can clock up to and beyond 5GHz. On average a 1700 will only hit 4GHz though. At 5GHz the 8600k runs fairly hot on a simple air cooler, in synthetic benches, but on your H150i Pro it would game at acceptable temps. Everyone knows syn benches stress test the CPU beyond what a game would. The 8600k runs about $19 more than a 1700.

So you need to prioritize whether you care more about game or non game performance, what res you're going to be playing at, and how serious you are about OCing. You probably won't like Ryzen for OCing, but if you plan to stream at all, it can usually handle that better due to the extra cores. However the Ryzens do fluctuate in frame rate badly in some games.

On the 6700K vs 1700, I was talking stock clock comparison. If they were OCed Intel would only pull ahead further because it OCs better, but again, depends what res. On RAM, no, AM4 does not support DDR3, nor would you want it too because DDR3 is slower than DDR4. Ryzen needs at least 3200 RAM. The reason for that is it's Infinity Fabric is tied to your RAM speed, so if your RAM is not fast it causes latency problems, which slows down the CPU.
