Hi all, my brother has a macbook pro that has been playing up for a while and appears to be on its last legs.
He spends most of his life producing on Logic X, and playing the occasional game. Rather than replacing the macbook, I've suggested building him a hackintosh, and have come up with a build plan.
Could anyone with some experience cast an eye over it and make sure it looks ok? i am pretty confident building PCs but have never attempted running OSX other than in VMs.
How hard is it to do? And what are the chances of it going horribly wrong, during installation or further down the line?
To summarize,
Priority 1- Stability
Priority 2- Logic X
Priority 3- Light gaming
here is the build:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4570 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor (£137.99 @ Aria PC)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£77.00 @ Scan.co.uk)
Memory: Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£58.96 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£39.14 @ Aria PC)
Video Card: MSI Radeon R7 250 1GB Video Card (£59.99 @ Aria PC)
Power Supply: XFX 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply (£44.98 @ Amazon UK)
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer (£11.78 @ CCL Computers)
Case: something for ~£30-40
Total: £429.84
I think the i5-4570 should be do the job well, the RAM was the cheapest ddr3-1600 CAS9 i could find, the GPU should be sufficient for his needs (mainly stuff like borderlands 2 and older, probably 720p) and the PSU should give him room for crossfire if he fancies it down the road.
Thanks!
