Half 2 Bug

Is anyone else getting this? Im on the first level where I leave the station
into the big courtyard. So I go right, then over the fence into the alley,
then right, then left past the 2 standing men, and then into the door way. I
walk down a passage towards a door and I get the 'loading' screen. But then
Half Life just comes up with the menu, its apparently failed to load the
next bit. And if I try to load anything after that I get a message "too many
vertices for a dynamic vertex buffer (11281 > 32768). Tell a programmer to
up VERTEX_BUFFER_SIZE."

Try clicking this link. It will tell steam to validate your HL2 files
(check for errors).
steam://validate/220

Yep, that's a known bug. Be glad though; the original message was simply
"Tell a programmer", but at least the game now states what you are supposed
to tell them 😉

As for fixing it? Of the top of my head: increase/decrease the heap size
and/or validate your cache files (instructions for which escape me).

I fixed it by reinstalling, which caused Steam to download a very large amount
of unspecified data after completing the validation process (I think it probably
replaced a corrupted GCF file). There may be better ways :) Try what the
others said first, but reinstalling should work if all else fails.

Nope, sorry, that's what worked for me, though as I said, the reinstall wasn't
enough: it downloaded a load of other stuff too (it took 6 hours on dial-up,
after the 1hr validation).

Try emailing your problem to Valve support, though you will just get a standard
reply (I did). Maybe it's listed in a FAQ at Steampowered by now (seems to be a
common enough problem).
