So I have built a new computer, seems to be running slow. BIOS shows only 4gb of ram instead of my 8gb in the slots. control panel shows I have 8gm of ram but only 3.9 usable.

Using 2-4gb gskill sniper
mobo Asus m5A97 R 2.0
CPU FX-6300

Try switching the ram around and see if you get the same result, if you do then your motherboard has a problem. If you switch them around and the bios isn't showing the ram in the second slot then it's your ram.

BIOS says I have 4090mb of ram but when I go to advanced setting check out my northbridge it shows in the slots that I have 4gb in each... Im stumped

Are you sure your motherboard supports all the RAM?

not sure how to check if it does or not, was my first build kinda a noob
