I brought Halo last Friday and my first impressions were that of a great game. But in one of battles there were a few enemies around, and the game soon drastically slowed down to an almost unplayable framerate! Now I like to think I have a pretty beefy PC;

- P4 2.4C o/c 3Ghz
- -512MB Ram PC2700
- nVIDIA 5600FX TDR256MB
- MSI Neo2 mainboard

I got a bit suspicious that the coding wasn’t right or that I had done something with the settings. Then I read a review of nVIDIA’s new cards on this website, and they had used Halo as a benchmark and I had to say I was shocked to find that it could only mange 24FPS on a P4 3.2 with a 5600FX ultra!

And to cap it all of I don’t think it’s that graphically impressive. And anyway this game was meant o be on the PC 3 years ago!

By the way does anyone now how I can a FPS score for Halo?

Is there anything really more to say?

I just got Halo. I'm running a p4 3ghz system with a radeon9800pro. I'm running it at 800X600, with the frame limiter at 30fps, AND EVEN ON MY KICK-ASS pc I'm getting occasional slowdowns. There is no system that will run it fast.

My only advice, get the 1.02 patch, it's supposed to improve performance.

Awesome game, but Gearbox could not code it well enough for it to even run smooth to run on a PC like mine.

Forget Halo, its to little to late IMO.
Though it is a fun game, Call of Duty does everything it does and COD does it better.. and wont bring your system to its knees while having better visuals.

My advice is play through the killer single player game, enjoy it.. then put it on the shelf forever.

I just tell it like it is and some can't handle it. If your experience is different, well congratu-fukulation.

You might try the tweak guide for Halo at <A HREF="http://www.tweaktown.com" target="_new">www.tweaktown.com</A>.

Let us know if it helps.

I have both
Halo is outdated crap compared to COD.

You should have gotten a XBOX, a played HALO while it was still hot, but you get a second chanche with HALO2.

Still it remains a shame that microsoft bought bungie and stopped them releasing titels primarily for the PC. I think ONI ruled, don't expect to much of the graphics anymore but the game play is great.
R.

Life's a joke so start laughing

Games that are gonna make it, have AVERAGE Requirement, not Through-the-roof ones, like CoD and BF need some basic thigns, have great graphics, and will not slow down on a newish system, so why both making games that dont even work, On the BEST computers. IMO, if your gonna make sales, make the game work for you, not work you into a new computer.

...Meh, too lazy to think of a better sig.

I remember freaking out when games started to require 3D Accelerators, I barely knew anyone who had 'em....

especially as i had just bought a comp without a free agp slot
Got scammed by those b@st@rds, I said ok this is a nice comp I'll buy it and install a proper vid card. They said: sure. I get home with an agp card... no slot! I had to get a PCI card, slow damned things.

Life's a joke and so am I

Yeah, my friend but a plain compaq (crap) and it came with no AGP slot and a horrible onboard graphics chip. Now he wants to upgrade his graphics but has to buy a PCI card so he's stuck probably at best with a 5200ULTRA (crap).

I did that to but it just doesn't work as well (or that well at all) there is some improvements but the PCI slot is just to damn slow to process the info.

Do they still make PCI cards then??

He's better getting a new computer with a free AGP slot even if it isn't the fasted on the market. A friend of mine had a pII333 with an apg card (forgot which one) and I had a pIII500 with the viper550 PCI card (the fastest I could get) and his computer often preformed better in games than mine :frown:

If all else fails: Read The Manual
