Microsoft has always sold their own products like this (the sidewinder).
The pricing is steep, but hopefully that eventually comes down. Then again, I'm not one to talk, I'm the guy who buys the nice mechanical keyboard, has two different mice (one for multi-purpose, one for gaming), etc.
